I know, you guys had no idea and might possibly be blindsided by the thought or idea of Keaton Taylor being married… If you’ve known me for ten years or more you know how much of a fuck up I’ve been in my life, but you also know that there’s some good inside these bones. There’s some candor and realism in these bones. Chances are there are parts of you in these bones.  Chances are are also good that we’ve shared more than a couple of good laughs, beers and maybe, just maybe some legitimately sad times. I mostly want to thank all of you for being a part of me… a part of these bones, a calcium sediment hardened into the fabric of me.

I keep using bones as a metaphor for my relationship to so many people for a few reasons. Bones are strong, really strong. The average human femur can bare a quarter of a ton of pressure before breaking… strong. The thing about bone is that it grows and regrows and reshapes and is affected by outside sources but is the reason we are able to stand as we do. I can’t measure my friends and family in Pascals, Bars or psi. I measure the memories and the bonds made over late nights in a damp garage, early mornings on a dirty floor and the burning July heat at 11 PM in an oldsmobile. We’ve seen people come and go, we’ve seen girls come and go, and go, and go. Now I’m transitioning to a point where a girl wants to stay. Forever. That’s a big deal for me. I’ve been through a girl or two and I’ve watched them walk away from me and the things I did and said, and I did nothing. My inaction with most of those people was a product of a life I was living that was baring no real fruit. I was wandering haphazardly from pseudo relationship-to-pseudo relationship wondering when it would all end. It ended August 2009. I met the girl of my dreams on her birthday IN A BAR – Take that every relationship analyst ever! I was instantly enamored and completely blown away by her eloquence, charm and intensely curly red hair. I was hooked. Fast forward to the beginning of march and here we are – planning a wedding.

I’m excited and relieved and scared shitless all at the same time and with good reason. This is a hefty decision. As most know I come from a background that values marriage about as much as an extra hole in the head. I think (thought?) marriage is a sham. It’s primarily used in our society as a way for christian kids to have sex or for the secular world to “figure things out.” Honestly, If I thought for a second this was the wrong decision I assure every last one of you I would call this wedding off in a heartbeat and wouldn’t have gotten into this position in the first place. It’s fast… I’m aware, telling me that doesn’t do anything but make me wonder if you think I’m stupid (I’m not.) and make me like you just a tad less. So, What do I want from you? friends, readers, confidants? Support. That’s it. I want you guys to be like “Hey man. I’m pumped that you’re happy. Good luck and here’s a spatula.”

So now… you need to know some things: the wedding is may 31st. it is in fact a Monday, Memorial Day to be exact. So what you’re going to wanna do is go to brendaandkeaton.com periodically and wait for the website to go live where you can get directions, our registry and RSVP to the thing. After the wedding and the honeymoon we’re gonna have a party… a THROWDOWN if you will. At this THROWDOWN we’re going to have some brews, cook some dogs, eat some cake and generally have a good time. The THROWDOWN is TBD as far as a date goes but we’ll let you know asap. So, thanks for reading, thanks for the well wishes and I hope to see you guys in a couple months!

For a long time in my life I was an Atheist, for the last few months (six or so) I’ve been doubting that I have all the knowledge in the cosmos and that I can say without a shadow of a doubt that there is no higher power beyond human life and that there is definitely no possibility. I have some friends who will find this disturbing or disgusting I am sure but at this point I don’t really care. I’m trying to figure out my path as a human being and I hope all those who do not agree with me find theirs as well. I think a great deal of this blog will relate to that journey from here on out.

I’ve been immersing myself in the whole minimalist aesthetic for a while now thanks to Mr. Stephen Wasson, a great designer and an amazing photographer in his own right. I can usually be caught surfing the MOCO LOCO website at least once a day checking out the architecture and design centric furniture and such they have such an affinity for posting. I also recommend Jim Krause’s Color and Type indexes for those of you who are color blind like me and Stephen or would like to see some examples of others’ use of text and color. For those of you who are much too advanced for books like those, you should check this out: here

iso50 is absolutely the shit. Scott is a design master and a lot of his shit is a sight to behold, not to mention the fact that he’s a pretty bitchin electronic music artist as well and goes under the band name Tycho. The sheer amount of posts he and his evildoers do on a weekly basis is amazing, that doesnt even touch on the technical information, awesome videos and general wealth of knowledge to be explored on the blog. Scott has a wealth of knowledge that he’s been so kind as to shell out on every occasion he can; from explaining what raid 0 and 1 drives do for you and your files to reviewing some sweet musical equipment. ISO50 is a renaissance mans design blog.

a DDC Joint

I’ve been following the blog of Aaron Draplin of the DDC (Draplindustries Design Company) very closely as of late. His blatant use of profanity and “yer” made him a quick favorite of mine. He’s had his hands all over the snowboarding industry and is part of the coolest sketchbook makers this side of a child labor camp: Field Notes. You can also see a sneak preview of the documentary coming out soon that is apparently about him here. (lots of F-words, great story though.) Oh yeah, not only is everything he says hilarious and his blog posts are usually super good, Aaron is also a hell of a graphic designer too.

I was recently turned on to this website by Steve Wasson called Grain Edit. Grain edit is a collection of uber inspiring work from several designers all over the place. I suggest checking it out if you have the brain shits one day. There are some seriously awesome designers and products touched on in their space on the web. Worth mentioning are the articles on Delicious Design League and the neither fish nor foul interview.

Sascha Barr of thisisthenewyear.com

I don’t think there will never be a time in my life as a creative when I don’t gush over Sascha Barr. I love his work and the overall aesthetic of the stuff he does. He’s made posters for a friend or two of mine and for people I can’t even begin to wonder what it’s like to work for as well. He comes off as a nice and humble dude via email and is eager to answer questions if you have them. If you have time check his stuff out at length and make sure to check the detailed images.

I think my blog is going to slowly but surely become a place for me to share more and more of my design oriented feelings and inspirations. Next time I’ll be exploring the effect of post modernism on the printmaking world at large… nah I’m just fucking with you. It’ll probably be dick and fart jokes.

I will be moving back in with my parents soon. I’m doing so to alleviate bills from my life and make sure this summer is open for possibilities of touring, road trips and general tomfoolery. I’ve been squatting in our empty house for a few days now and it’s been good, but lonely. Theres no footsteps across our shitty hardwood floors, theres no loud tv coming from C’s room. I feel like a parent whose children have left but in reality I’m a dweller in a place where I’m leaving and feel like the house is taking something from me. I know it sounds silly but that’s how I feel. For about the last two years I’ve called this place home, Now I’m gutting my things out of it and feeling less than great about it.

Band of Horses – Cease to Begin

Band’s back in a rhythm of sorts. it;’s a weird one though. With school and such coming up soon it’s kind of a wash to get started and be able to play maybe 2 times a month tops.

this is tentative. there are a ton of changes to be made. we’re working on the songs in tandem, nathan and I. This whole writing together thing is new for the both of us so it’s an experience and it’s turning out to be fun really.
